Making Time for Self-Care

As devoted bosses, partners and friends - we pride ourselves on taking care of everyone else’s needs. However, with jam-packed daily schedules, we often don’t make our own mental health and self-care a priority. Over time this leads to the feelings of anxiety, burnout and being emotionally drained.

I’ve definitely experienced the exhaustion and frustration when my self-care takes a back seat to other people’s demands. But the truth is we simply can’t pour from an empty cup or show up fully for others if our inner light is dimmed by stress. That’s why practicing regular self-compassion is truly essential.

While finding extra minutes in the day may seem impossible, there are plenty of small self-care practices that can make a big difference when it comes to relaxation and renewing our sense of calm. Here are my top time-efficient self-care tips:

5 Minutes Daily of Deep Breathing

Simply sitting and focusing on deep inhales and exhales helps clear your mind, slow racing thoughts and relax tense muscles.

10 Minutes of Guided Morning Meditation

Ease into your day with some soothing and centering words to set a positive intention. Apps like Calm provide short options.

Enjoy Nightly Cup of Herbal Tea

Give yourself at least 20 minutes at night to sip, relax and do nothing else but savor the warmth.

Treat Yourself to Weekly At-Home Spa Sessions

Block out 30 minutes for an at-home mani/pedi, face mask or soothing bath when the kids go down.

Say Daily Affirmations
Combat negative self-talk by looking in the mirror and saying 3 things you love about yourself first thing in the morning. Boosts confidence and self-love!

By infusing our week with small yet mighty moments like these, the compounded effects create big time improvements in our mindset, patience and overall demeanor. When we nurture our inner light, we have so much more brightness to share across all areas of life.
